Samuel Allcock 1753

Post by paulr1949 »

On my linked DNA tree, I had an Ancestry tree hint for Ann Allcock (née Lamb), my 5 x great grandmother on my mother's maternal side, which I followed up. She had twin grandsons, John and Samuel Allcock, born in 1753 and baptised 31 January 1753 in Linby, Nottinghamshire. Sadly, both died, Sameul being buried 10th May and John on 25th June. I already had this information, but the tree suggested that Samuel had not died but had married an Ann Wollatt or Woolatt. I believe this must be a different Samuel Allcock but I cannot find any reference to another one in the area at the relevant time and I wondered if a fresh pair of eyes mught help. The baptism & burial images for the twins are on Ancestry. The Ann Woollat in question is born 1756 in Selston, not very far from Linby.
Thanks in advance for looking

According to the 1753 burial records on FreeReg, Samuel and John were infants. Unfortunately, no parent(s) names recorded. I do note the 1773 marriage for a Samuel Allcock to Ann Wollatt in Hucknall Torkard, which is near Linby?

I found two other baptism of the period for a Samuel Alcock, both in CROPWELL BISHOP, Nottinghamshire, which is south east of Nottingham
19 Jan 1745, parents Samuel and Mary, no evidence of a burial
26 Jan 1746, parents Samuel and Mary, could be same baptism because of the year endings but the actual day is different
and
another marriage which could be the above marrying at 18/19
Samuel Alcock of Clipston, Edwinstow m. Sarah Hutchinson of Teversall, at TEVERSALL on 30 Jul 1764, married by Banns, no witnesses

Lots of possibilities of baptisms for Sarah on the Notts/Lincs border.

Yes, a lot of the family were from (or settled in) Hucknall Torkard - what a wonderful name! I’m not sure if the images for HT are on ancestry, Linby records are. I’ll have another look and browse through them if possible.

You might try looking on FamilySearch. They have un-indexed images for HT available to browse.
(Login, search\catalogue for HT, select on-line only, then select Church records.)

The PR Transcripts for 1556-1860 are available to view. I had a quick look, and found lots of church warden accounts, and bastardy Records etc. The Birth, Marriages and Deaths are supposed to be there too, but with over 1400 images to look through, may be a bit of a slog to find.

Baptisms to Samuel and Ann Alcock/Allcock at Hucknall Torkard, 1773-1797

Maybe
Burial there, 20 March 1807, of Ann Allcock. Age 51?
Burial, 18 April 1812, Samuel Allcock. Age 81.
(There is a big age difference!)

Baptism at Hucknall Torkard, 20 Dec 1730
Samuel Alcock(e), son of Joel and Hannah

Hi Mick,
I've had a quick go through and there do not appear to be any BMDs, basically all parish chest records for parishes H-L in Nottinghamshire.
Thanks anyway

Much easier to find using the FS image viewer, only 79 images for item 23.
The transcripts on the film are for Hucknall Torkard baptisms and burials 1558-1783, marriages 1558-1754

I don’t know what you are looking at, but my Item 23 has 1415 images! The 79 images you are looking at are overseer records, not parish register!

The film has 1415 images in total.
Sticking the DGS number into their film viewer, the result is that the film is broken up into the different items
https://www.familysearch.org/records/im ... rs=8068205

Hucknall Torkard has 79 images for overseers records
But in them, starting image 48, are some parish register transcripts. I don't know by whom, or when, or why

They also have another 100 plus images of poor rates for Hucknall, I haven't looked through them. See the list from my first link.
