Frances Murch (possibly Hucker)

Post by WoolieHE »

I'm trying to trace Frances Murch born 1793 Roborough by Torrington in Devon.

I have found a possible marriage for her to John Hucker on 12 July 1824 in Southampton. The couple had George Henry baptised 1825 St George Hanover Square and Eliza baptised 1829 St Pancras.

I think I have found the couple in 1841 census at Wardour Street, St Annes, Westminster. I have found a death for John Hucker (aged 47) in March quarter 1844, registered St James Westminster.

George Henry married 1845 and he gives his father as deceased. George died in 1868.

I can find Frances Hucker (aged 77 - Shopkeeper sweetmeats) at 7 Berwick Street, St James Westminster in 1871 census with Eliza. Frances' place of birth Devonshire Robery

I can find a death for Frances in March quarter 1875 (also a possible workhouse record in 1875 on Ancestry). I have also found her in 1850 and 1865 trade directories at Chandler Shop 7 Berwick Street (again on Ancestry). What I cannot find, try as I might, is an entry for her in 1851 or 1861 census records for her to definitely confirm her place of birth.

Can anyone assist?

Many thanks in advance

As yet, the only thing I can offer is a baptism listed on freereg.org.uk for Frances Murch, baptised 2nd December 1793, St Peter, Roborough, Devon, father Thomas Murch, mother Jane. Hopefully, I'll search further tomorrow.

Yes, she is listed there in the PO London Directory 1861.
In the census that year, 7 Berwick Street is found piece 60 folio 82 page 18

The buildings in Berwick Street are multi occupied, among those enumerated are Frederick Bryan the pork butcher at 6, and Joseph Perryman is included at number 8.
But no Frances Hucker at 7.
