Nice as all your suggested meanings for the various initials are, you are all forgetting these were introduced long before English as we know it was spoken, and they all derive from latin expressions :D

For example, INRI stood for the latin phrase Iēsus Nazarēnus, Rēx Iūdaeōrum

I knew my schoolboy Latin would eventually prove useful :lol: :lol: It certainly took long enough!

Thanks everyone for all the responses to my question, I think that as was stated here, the majority of the symbols was the stone mason showing off his talents. The fleur de lys was interesting and I did wonder if there were Hugeneot connections? I have passed on all the comments to the lady in question and hopefully this will help her with her further researches into this family, thanks again.
