We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Birth record brick wall

Another post that doesn't move anything forward but might be of interest all the same. The Blackpool Gazette & Herald 25 Feb 1876 carries an article about the Excelsior lodge of the Independent United Order of Mechanics holding a tea party to raise funds for their Widow & Orphans fund, and a...

Re: Birth record brick wall

Re: Birth record brick wall

The newspaper report was in the South Eastern Gazette of 27 June 1916. I've also just spotted another report in the Faversham Times and Mercury and North-East Kent Journal of 27 May 1916 that actually gives a lot more detail, although Amy is wrongly called Ada Matilda. I'll let you find & read i...

Re: Birth record brick wall

It appears that Matthew Walsh (musician) married a Mary Ann Burns on 17 July 1881 in Hulme, Manchester. It doesn't sound like she's the Shropshire-born lady in the 1891-1901 census reports. As such, what happened to Mary Ann? Did she die? Or did she and Matthew go their separate ways by 1884? It lo...

Re: Birth record brick wall

A newspaper report about the bigamy charge wrongly names him as John A Walsh, a private in the Royal Field Artillery. Married first in April 1914, Wavertree, then again in April 1916 in Canterbury, claiming to be a bachelor. The report says he enlisted 1 January 1915 and an officer from the regiment...

Re: A long shot

There is a record showing the birth of a Margaret Duncan - Sept Qtr 1856 Vol1a Page 281 - District St Martin-in-the Fields. I This looks promising as George Duncan and Elizabeth Hooper baptised two daughters in the church on Trafalgar Square. The date is just feasible given the dates of birth of El...

Re: William DANIELS, b 1817

The age is a little out but FmP has a record for a William Daniels born Edmonton deserting from the 67th Foot Regiment on 13 Mar 1839, aged 19.
