We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Fold3 - New UK Military Records (WW1)
One should also be able to fully access the records with the full Ancestry sub unless they have changed the rules since my sub expired. Depends what you mean by "Full"... My "Full" membership is actually officially a "Worldwide" membership. There is a step beyond which...

Re: Ancestry Hints
Mind you... Slightly playing Devil's Advocate here - what if the death that you have for him is wrong? And the 1939 was the first evidence that you'd actually deceased the wrong George?

Re: GRO (England & Wales) Digital Images
... GRO are correct - for all registration purposes a maiden name is the name in which a woman "first contracts a marriage", usually, but not always , their name at birth. So an unmarried woman doesn't have one, hence the "dash" in the on-line GRO indexes. Thanks for the succinc...

Re: GRO (England & Wales) Digital Images
I succumbed - one of my long-standing mysteries is a Frank Taylor who appears as an 8-year-old in the 1891 census. He's living in my GG-GM's household and is just described as her grandson. Similar in 1901 and 1911, just adding 10y each time. Unfortunately, he's b Newton Heath in the 1st census and ...

Re: Canadian census 1921 and 1931
1931 is there on Ancestry - https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/62640/ (I went to their Card Catalogue , filtered by location Canada , then clicked Census & Electoral Rolls - the 1931 Census of Canada is at the top of the list if you are sorting by Date Added.) It is indeed searchable ...

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
... No, I meant Matooskie is suddenly declared his ancestor, with no lead up. They may have known a lot about her, but their audience didn’t :D It didn’t help that kevin kept referring to his ancestor as his great-great-great-great-great-grand… etc rather than using numbers like my 5’ggmother. ... ...

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
I think that Matooskie was referred to as being already well-known to historians of First Nations, simply because of the number of letters and documents that survive referring to her. And the number of Google references to her, bear this out.

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
Dipping into and out of iPlayer and listening to commentory or reading certificates... Too many Graces... His 3rd GPs John Russell (cab driver) marr Jan 1882 Grace Gorridge (16y old so b abt 1866) (this Grace is the battered wife). The marr cert says Grace's parents are Alexander(?not sure?) & G...

Re: WDYTYA 2023 Series
That's what I thought but... Just been Googling as bit more... I think a generation was rushed over, at best. Maybe edited badly. From https://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine.com/episode/kevin-clifton-who-do-you-think-you-are/ A check of census records reveals that Kevin’s 2x great grandmother, Emma...
