We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Another Murray
Does the 1828 larceny incident give an address where the Murray's were living? I don't see the incident listed in newspaper reports, etc. As for the 1843 death cert: I think SHM is an in-law, maybe even a sister-in-law. If she was a spinster daughter of Thomas, wouldn't she be living with her father...

Re: Another Murray
As previously suggested SHM could be an in-law, which is why it's important to focus on the sons he had from his first marriage. After all, Caroline Lee was the informant when her in-laws died in 1916. I'm struggling a bit with the locations: 1819 (Islington incident), 1824 (remarriage in Spitafield...

Re: Another Murray
The 1841 Thomas married Jane Susannah Parsons in Spitalfields in 1826 and was a widower. Do you have any details regarding his previous wife's name and all the children they had? (Sarah Hannah Murray could be a daughter-in-law of Thomas). What was Thomas' occupation and address when he remarried in...

Re: Another Murray
Do you have Thomas Murray in the 1841 census? Is he at Elder Walk in Islington? Was he married or widowed when he died? (I see a William Murray, age 24, at Elder Walk in the 1861 census. Is he related?)

Re: Agnes Findlay - a huge mystery!
There's a Hetherington in my family tree. Born in Northumberland, lived off and on in Scotland, and died in Cumbria. He married my 1st cousin (3 x removed) in 1871. Interestingly, he names his Scottish father as Thomas Beatty Hetherington (file cutter) on the marriage record. TBH might not have been...

Re: Agnes Findlay - a huge mystery!
Agnes appears in all census records in New Cumnock from 1841 to 1871. My experience with Scotland census records is that it's unusual to see a specific English birthplace listed. Usually it's just "England". Are you sure Agnes' birthplace is "Northumberland" in each census recor...

Re: Agnes Findlay - a huge mystery!
...her parents were recorded as being James Findlay and Margaret Hetherington, and I cannot for the life of me find a shred of any information about them, and there is the usual case of other family trees on ancestry seemingly inventing them... Question for clarity: Do Agnes' parents (James and Mar...

Re: Mary Ann Keating
I've found with workhouse records it's important to always look at the previous and subsequent images (which can include notes/addresses for the inmate in question). I've discovered quite a few vital clues that way, usually on the subsequent images.

Re: Mary Ann Keating
I think Mo has made reference to the Murrays in the workhouse register That's right...I did. And also mentioned the 1892 birth reg for a Henry Murray in Islington, which might just be a coincidence. So, when did Eliza Murray die? And when did Mary Keating come on the scene? And what happened ...

Re: Saint George's Workhouse (Mint Street)
Apparently some of the notebooks are searchable: https://booth.lse.ac.uk/notebooks You can search the Stepney Union casebooks for names and ages (or birth dates) of individuals mentioned. Looks like the Police notebooks are searchable, as well.
