We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Gladden emigrants Norfolk-Canada

A number of one branch of my Gladden ancestors appear to have emigrated from Norfolk to Ontario, Canada between 1841 and 1847. I don't believe that there are any immigration records available for that period - but can anyone prove me wrong? William Gladden, born 1790 Hevingham Norfolk, married 1817 ...

Re: 1921 census talk

It was not intended as help for searching the census, merely that there may be some people who would take up that sort of an offer. Who knows how long it might be before the census is included in subscriptions.

1921 census talk

On Saturday I attended a zoom meeting where a presentation was given by Mary McKee of FMP on the work leading up to the release of the census. It was very interesting, and had some useful tips on searching to get better results. This may have been mentioned already, but apparently TNA/the government...

Re: How it Started, How it's Going

I only got started in family history by accident! After my father died in 2006, I was sorting through some paperwork and found the executor’s files of my maternal great-aunt Flo who had died in 1987. Most of her will was fairly straightforward, but I was intrigued that, after various small bequests,...

Re: 1921 census review

I shall also wait for the time being. When the excitement has died down a bit, I shall look up all 4 sets of grandparents, but that is all.

Re: Storage of documents

I've used the S&N folders and those from My History. I had to store a number of oversized documents and (I think) the "My History" selection better suited that (they were pre-war school certificates and Army Papers of my father-in-law) https://www.my-history.co.uk/acatalog/Archive_Stor...

Re: The DNA journey begins

So it's now about 6 months on and I have to say I am still unimpressed. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but my closest match is a third-fourth cousin with 68cm. More disappointingly, only 8 of the matches with 40cm or more have a public linked tree, 2 have private trees, one an unlinked tree and the rest ha...
