We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Military Service Records - Any Progress?

This week I had an email from the FHS of Cheshire to say that online ordering for army records is now active via the gov.uk website - Sorry, I can’t post the link here. It’s not going to get you records any quicker I suspect but it’s a start. My wife ordered her father’s records in February 2021 by ...

Re: Mystery uniform/insignia

The text on Artogonou’s photo looks as though it could be GLL, I can’t make it out easily but may be something to bear in mind

Re: FMP 1921 Census

As far as I can work out, there is a flat fee of £19.99 to gain access now, whether you have 2 days or 11 months left on your current subscription, but only for Pro subscribers. A new subscription to Premium will be £199.99 (less any loyalty discount you may have. ) I don’t know how much it costs to...

Re: Ancestry "hint"

You are right, of course, Adrian in the general sense as I could very easily have an error. This particular one I am pretty sure is correct, with children at the "right" time and a possible burial in London in 1839 (where, I believe, he lived most of his life, and the "hint" Geor...

Ancestry "hint"

This one arrived today. I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry, as he would have been 134 years old at the time of marriage :!:

Re: WDYTYA - 9 June - Richard Osman

I agree, it was an interesting episode. But am I the only one who spotted Edward Gillam one entry below Gabriel in the long-term workhouse records? He had been there a year longer than Gabriel and I would be quite surpised if they were not related.

This makes a change as most archive offices are some distance from railway stations.
Especially Norwich and Ipswich (speaking from experience)

Re: Italian ancestry

I got in touch with him about 4 years ago - a friend’s father had died and was buried in Italy and they needed a death certificate to apply for military records. He was good enough to obtain one and sent it to me

Re: Gladden emigrants Norfolk-Canada

I've got passenger lists for 1846 from Ancestry's New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957 . Yes, I know that you said Canada but the family in question spent some time in the USA then, in 1850/51, decided to go to Canada. Worth a double check in case yours did similar? I did wonder about that, Adriam, ...
