We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Re: Cloumarsh, Ireland

A bit late in answering, sorry, but I've looked at a few of the Ancestry and Fold 3 records and I'd say the 'problem' is down to transcription errors caused by poor handwriting. The Fold 3 records are mainly enlistments, which often include further information, and the correct place appears to be &q...

Re: Problem solving advice

Unfortunately when your likely 'common ancestor' is as far back as 6xG Grandparents, you're facing an uphill struggle. Estimates I've read suggest that fewer than 5% of your 7th cousins would share any DNA with you, and for those that do it would usually be around 15cMs or less. I'm still fairly new...

Re: Death Philip Neri Parmiter Snr

Just so you know you're not alone.... I have the same situation with an 1867 burial in County Durham.

The local registrars were very helpful, but were also unable to find any death certificate.

Re: Finding a birth

This might be the lady who was the informant on OJD's 1977 death certificate: 1939 Register Annie B Dalziel (married) DoB: 11 Dec 1912 (the 1985 death registration indicates DOB is 12 Dec 1912) Address: 16 Somerville Road, Dartford, Kent Occupation: Vickers Dartford (I wonder if that was Vickers-Ar...

Re: Where is Michael Purcell's Birth certificate and who is his Mother.

I found a birth of a James Purcell on FMP on 4th August 1835 in Urlingford (this ties in with James dying aged 60), father Tim mother ??? nee Walsh. I wouldn't be too quick to assume that's the correct birth/baptism. They married in 1852, so if 1835 is correct that would make him underage. Catherin...

Re: Where is Michael Purcell's Birth certificate and who is his Mother.

Its OK, I've found it by searching for Richard Eagan. If you scroll back to page 1 you'll see the microfilm is headed Parish of Muckalee, Baptisms, 30 Oct 1801 - Sept 1806, and you an see the year 1802 on the top right on the image you posted. Unfortunately this puts it about 80 years earlier than y...

Re: Where is Michael Purcell's Birth certificate and who is his Mother.

Sorry but I cant read that at all, nor can I replicate your details from a search. Can you provide the exact details from the transcript on FMP please.

Re: Where is Michael Purcell's Birth certificate and who is his Mother.

The website is back up, and I was wrong... Edmond was said to be 34 when he died, so born c1870*. This obviously doesn't fit with his birth registration (1866), or his age in the 1901 census (born c1869), but John's age varies too - the 1901 census says born c1865 but the 1911 says born c1869 (which...

Re: Where is Michael Purcell's Birth certificate and who is his Mother.

The website is currently down, but I believe his age was given as 36. I think that only Edmond & John have the same father. James may have been his grandfather & he used his name to cover up that he was illegitimate. Or perhaps Edmond & John had another brother named James, and it was hi...

Re: Where is Michael Purcell's Birth certificate and who is his Mother.

I disagree that the middle part of the name of Michael's NoK is unreadable, I read it very clearly as Mary Dillon - that's why I went looking for that particular name. Edward, Edmond, Edmund, Edwin etc are all different names, as you say, but there are numerous examples of names being recorded incor...
