We welcome any query on Who When Where. If you have previously posted it on another forum (including the old WDYTYA forum), please state this in your opening post - this will save people redoing the research which has been done before: they can look at it and possibly go further with it.

Australian subscription to WDYTYA magazine
I have been subscribing to the magazine for a number of years but this year I have experienced many problems with non-arrival of issues. To the best of my knowledge, the airlines and mail are more or less back to their pre-Covid schedules, but to date I have received fewer than half the issues I hav...

Re: Firs Lane Edmonton Middx 1950s
Thank you. It sounds a very similar arrangement to the Bonegilla Migrant Camp, near where I live in Wodonga, Australia, set up after the War to accommodate displaced persons.

Firs Lane Edmonton Middx 1950s
I've been following a relative through electoral rolls and in 1952/53 their address is given as 'The Hostel', Firs Lane, Edmonton, Middx. Many people are listed as being there, including probable married couples. Does anyone know what this place was? My relative would have been aged in her late 40s ...

WDYTYA Anna Maxwell Martin
Was the Anna Maxwell Martin episode of WDYTYA screened in the UK as part of the last series? We have been watching the series on UKTV in Australia but this episode has been omitted. Does anyone have any info on this? I loved the Ralf Little episode screened last night. On my last visit to the UK, I ...

Re: William Ambrose FORSYTHE, RE, 1893, Limerick
Thank you both for your ideas. Like Adrian, I did wonder whether the PO in Ireland was using Army telegraphists as a security measure. William was still with the Post Office at the time of his death in 1923.

William Ambrose FORSYTHE, RE, 1893, Limerick
William was born in Limerick in 1871, son of George FORSYTHE who was in the RIC. Enlistment papers on Ancestry and FMP show that William joined the Royal Engineers in Limerick, Ireland, in 1893 as a telegraphist, service no. 27347. He served at home until discharge at completion of his term in 1905....

Re: Death - Matthew Rountree FOGGON
Thanks Sally. I am aware of both those records. The J. Forsythe was a half-uncle on Matthew's maternal side. Several of the (extended) family used his address as a contact point when visiting the UK but there is no evidence of prolonged stays there. Interestingly, James lived just outside London and...

Re: Death - Matthew Rountree FOGGON
Thanks for responding. I am aware of the withholding periods for Australian data but it was worth a try. If his brother's death notice is correct and Matthew had died before 1990 he should show up somewhere. The other possibility is that, for some reason, he was 'dead' to the family and they no long...

Death - Matthew Rountree FOGGON
I have been trying to find a death record for Matthew Rountree FOGGON. He was born in Queensland in 1905, youngest child of Matthew FOGGON and Sarah FORSYTHE. He studied modern languages at the University of Queensland and went to England in 1930s. On the 1939 register, he is living in Holborn, Lond...
